I work from a number of different sources for my imagery; quick sketches, watercolor studies, studio drawing, and snap shots. I am much more likely to compose a painting from a quick thumbnail sketch and not think very much about what a place looked like. In fact, each time I study a landscape, I am overwhelmed by the remarkable beauty and complexity of the real world that I have to consiously resign myself to the creation of an abstraction. This distillation of an intagible quality is what I strive to convey in my paintings. I am always seeking out the essence of what makes a particular image magic. Ultimately, I want the inspiration of a painting to become the remembrance of the viewer. The mood should carry the audience into the heart of their own experience so that the image becomes their own. Please click on the image to see more detail.
